# 97. Coupon Analysis Report

[Coupon Analysis Report](https://autosoftware.company/coupon_analysis_report.php) shows how each of your coupons performed over a period, one line per coupon: how often it was used, how much discount it gave away, the average ticket on the invoices that used it, and how many of the customers using it were using it for the first time. Two smaller tables split the same coupons between first-time and repeat users. Use it to see which promotions bring customers in, which ones cost the most, and whether a coupon is winning new business or rewarding existing customers.

## How do I run the Coupon Analysis Report?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Coupon, Discount & Promotional Reports → Coupon Analysis Report.
2. Set the date range in the Date selector. It opens on the whole of the current month, from the first to the last day. The range is matched against the invoice date.
3. Click SEARCH to load the report. SHOW ALL returns to the current month.
4. Click any column heading to sort the table by it; click again to reverse. The main table opens sorted by PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL, most-used coupon first.
5. Click [PRINT](https://autosoftware.company/mpdf/coupon_analysis_report_pdf.php) for a PDF copy or DOWNLOAD to export to a spreadsheet. The printout keeps the sort order you chose on screen.

## How do I read one coupon's line?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Coupon, Discount & Promotional Reports → Coupon Analysis Report, run it for your date range and pick one line in the main table. Example: *$15 Off Any Oil Change - Web*, 09-01-2025 to 02-28-2026.
2. COUNT is the number of invoices that used the coupon. Example: 277.
3. COUPON TOTAL is the discount those invoices received. Example: $4,155.00, which is 277 × $15.00.
4. AVG TICKET is the net sales of those invoices divided by COUNT. Example: $90.87, the average ticket after the $15 discount.
5. FIRST TIME USAGE is the number of customers who had not used this coupon before the From date. Example: 251.
6. FIRST TIME % USAGE is FIRST TIME USAGE ÷ COUNT × 100. It compares customers with invoices, so read it as first-time customers per 100 uses of the coupon. Example: 251 ÷ 277 × 100 = 90.61 %.
7. PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL is COUNT ÷ the COUNT in the TOTAL row × 100. Example: 277 ÷ 2,435 × 100 = 11.38 %. In the main table this column is reliable and adds up to 100 %.
8. The first-time and repeat figures for the same coupon are in the two smaller tables. Example: $4,005.00 from first-time users and $180.00 from repeat users. They normally add up to the main COUPON TOTAL. If they come to a little more, the extra is later uses by the same first-time customers after your To date, which the New Customers table also counts.

## About this screen

The main table lists every coupon used at least once in the period. Each line shows the COUPON TYPE (the coupon's name), the AMOUNT (its fixed dollar value, or Variable for a percentage coupon), the AVG TICKET (the average net sale on the invoices that used it), START DATE and EXPIRE DATE (shown only for coupons set up with an expiry date; the start date is the day the coupon was created), FIRST TIME USAGE, FIRST TIME % USAGE, the COUPON TOTAL (the discount it gave, parts and labor together), the COUNT (the number of invoices that used it) and its PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL, its share of all coupon uses in the period.

The TOTAL row at the foot adds up COUPON TOTAL and COUNT for every coupon in the table.

Under the table, the Coupon Analysis bar chart shows the COUNT for each coupon. When there are many coupons the chart leaves some bars unlabelled, so read the exact figures from the table.

What do "first time" and "repeat" mean on this report?

They are measured per coupon, against the start of your date range. A customer counts as first time for a coupon if they had not used that same coupon before your From date, and as repeat if they had. They do not tell you whether the customer is new to the shop, and a customer who uses a coupon twice inside your range still counts once, as first time. Moving the From date earlier moves customers from the repeat table to the first-time table.

The New Customers/Quick Sales table lists each coupon with the COUPON TOTAL given to first-time users, their COUNT (the number of first-time customers), and a PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL. The Repeat Customers table does the same for repeat users. Each has a TOTAL row and its own bar chart.

Do not rely on the PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL column in these two tables. It is not worked out against the table's own total, so the column does not add up to 100 %. In the captured period the Repeat Customers percentages add up to more than 200 %. To see a coupon's share of the table, divide its COUNT by the table's TOTAL count. Example: 37 repeat users ÷ 186 = 19.89 %, where the column shows 44.05 %.

The printout is headed Coupon Analysis Report From with your dates and carries the same three tables and totals as the screen, without the charts. It heads the percentage column FIRST TIME PERCENTAGE USAGE, and it prints - where the screen leaves a date blank.

Coupons are set up in ARM's coupon settings. For the discount given by every coupon and every discounted service in one place, run Discount Tracking Summary Report.
