# 13. Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th Onward)

The Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th Onward) is the one-page summary a shop takes to its sales tax return. For the date range it shows total receipts, the sales tax actually collected, gross sales less tax, and then breaks gross sales less tax into the categories a tax return asks for: parts, sales to resellers, labor, smog certificates, gift cards and each shop and state fee, lettered A through T so the lines can be quoted. "May 28th Onward" marks the date the current tax calculation came in; for periods before that date use the Old Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th & Prior) if your store still shows it. Use this report at month or quarter end to fill in the return, and to check that the categories add back up to gross sales.

## How do I run the Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th Onward)?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Sales & Financial Reports → Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th Onward).
2. Click the From : … To : … date box and pick the first and last day of the filing period. The report opens on the first day of the current month through today and uses the finalized date of the invoices. The × beside the box clears the dates.
3. Click Search to load the summary, or Show All to reload it for the same dates.
4. Read the lettered lines down the Description column with their Amount. When the range contains refunded invoices, two more columns appear: Refund Amount in red, the part of each line that was refunded, and Net, the amount less the refund, which is the figure to report.
5. Click [Print](https://autosoftware.company/mpdf/sales_and_sales_tax_summary_report_new_pdf.php) to open a PDF copy in a new tab.

## How do I fill in a sales tax return from this report?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Sales & Financial Reports → Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th Onward).
2. Set the From : … To : … box to the filing period and click Search.
3. Take A as gross receipts, B as tax collected, D plus F (or F less F1 where labor is taxable) as taxable sales, and E as non-taxable sales to resellers; the fee lines G through S go to whichever lines your state form has for them. Use the Net column when it is shown, so refunds are already taken off.
4. Check that T equals C before you file; if not, an invoice has an unusual category and the Detailed Sales Report in the same section shows it.
5. Click Print and keep the PDF with the return.

## How do I see the invoices behind the parts or resellers line?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Sales & Financial Reports → Sales Tax Summary Report (May 28th Onward), and run it for the period.
2. Click the arrow icon after D. Amount Charged for Parts to open the list of invoices with their part amounts, or the arrow after E. Sales to Resellers Not Subject to Sales Taxes to open the tax-exempt invoice list, both for the same dates.
3. Use the browser back button to return to the summary.
