# 49. SMS Opt In/Out History

The [SMS Opt In/Out History](https://autosoftware.company/sms_opt_in_out_report.php) (its heading reads SMS OPT-IN & OPT-OUT HISTORY) is the record of every customer who has agreed to, or stopped, text messages from the shop, one line per event with the customer, the mobile number, whether it was an opt-in or an opt-out, and the date and time. Both kinds of event come from the customer's own reply: texting START after the shop's opt-in request records an opt-in, and texting STOP at any time records an opt-out and switches text messages off for that number. Use it to prove consent when a customer complains about a text, to see who has replied to an opt-in campaign, and to confirm that a customer who texted STOP is no longer being messaged.

## How do I run the SMS Opt In/Out History?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Management & Operational Reports → SMS Opt In/Out History.
2. To find one customer, type part of the customer's name, or the start of the mobile number as stored with its country code, into Search.
3. In Select Type, choose Opt-In or Opt-Out to see one kind of event, or leave Select Type for both.
4. Click the From : … To : … box beside Date and pick a range, then Apply; the report reloads at once. With no range chosen the report lists every event since the store's beginning date. The × clears the dates.
5. Click Search to apply a typed search, or Show All to clear every filter and start again.
6. Click any column heading to sort by it; click it again to reverse the order. Total: above the table is the number of events listed, and long lists are split into pages with page links under the table.
7. Click [Print](https://autosoftware.company/mpdf/sms_opt_in_out_report_pdf.php) for a PDF copy in a new tab; the button appears only when the list has rows.

## How do I check whether a customer has agreed to receive texts?

1. From the Home Screen, click Reports → Management & Operational Reports → SMS Opt In/Out History.
2. Type the customer's name into Search and click Search.
3. Read the newest line for that number: Opt-In means the customer replied START, Opt-Out means the customer replied STOP and must not be texted. No line means the customer has never replied; send the opt-in request again from the Opt-In SMS box on the Home Screen.

## About this screen

Each line shows the Customer Name (the customer whose record carries that mobile number; blank when no customer record matches), the Contact Number the text came from, written with its country code, the Type (Opt-In for a START reply, Opt-Out for a STOP reply), the Date with the time, and the IP Address of the messaging service that delivered the reply to ARM. Newest events are listed first. An opt-in is recorded only when the START reply answers a text the shop sent asking for permission, such as the marketing opt-in request sent when an invoice is finalized or from the Opt-In SMS box on the Home Screen; a STOP reply is recorded whenever it arrives, and ARM marks the customer as stopped so no further texts go to that number until the customer replies START again.

The Add To Favorites switch beside the heading saves the report under Favorites on the Reports page. The same list opens from the View Opt-Ins button in the Opt-In SMS box on the Home Screen. Which reports you see depends on your admin group permissions.
