# 49. SMS Content Templates

An SMS content template is the wording of a text your staff send by hand. Texts are charged per message and one text is 160 characters, so keep these short — a long template silently costs several messages each time it is sent. The list shows each template's Name, Type and Status.

## How do I add an SMS content template?

1. From the Home Screen, click System Setup Tools → [SMS Content Templates](https://autosoftware.company/user_autoresponder_list.php?ch=sms).
2. Click [Add Template](https://autosoftware.company/user_autoresponder_form.php).
3. Set Type to SMS. This is required.
4. Enter the Name. It is required.
5. Write the wording in the Message box, using keywords for anything that differs per customer. Keep it inside 160 characters to stay within one text.
6. Leave the status set to Active and click Save.

## How do I edit an SMS template?

1. From the Home Screen, click System Setup Tools → SMS Content Templates.
2. Type into SEARCH BY NAME and click Search.
3. Click VIEW to read it, or EDIT to change it.
4. Change the Message and click Save.
